Around one million animal and plant species worldwide are facing significant challenges — a clear signal of how critical it is to protect our planet’s biodiversity. In Germany, too, it’s evident that more action is needed to safeguard nature. Instead of focusing solely on the challenges, we choose to highlight the opportunities: protecting biodiversity gives us the chance to create a sustainable future for generations to come.
To turn this vision into reality, leading representatives from standards organizations, food companies, agriculture, NGOs, and scientific institutions in Germany came together in March 2021 to establish the association “Food for Biodiversity – Biodiversity in the Food Sector.” Together, we are committed to integrating biodiversity into food production and driving positive change.

Who we are
Food for Biodiversity e.V. is an alliance of companies in the food sector, environmental organizations, standard-setting bodies, and scientific institutions. Our mission is to embed the protection and promotion of biodiversity throughout the entire value chain of the food industry. We develop practical solutions, foster dialogue between businesses, science, and environmental organizations, and advocate for a sustainable transformation of the sector.
What we do
Food for Biodiversity places the promotion, restoration and preservation of biodiversity at the center of its association work. Food manufacturers and traders, standards and other players in the industry, scientific institutions and environmental organizations pull together as members: they undertake to implement measures that protect biological diversity in the food industry and its upstream value chains

European Conference "Biodiversity in Food Supply Chains"
Join us on November 13 & 14, 2024, in Berlin for a transformative event dedicated to the crucial role of biodiversity in the global food supply chain. This conference will spotlight innovative approaches and best practices for protecting biodiversity while building sustainable and resilient food systems.
